First introduced as the New Haven Ecology Project in 1990, Common Ground has really made a name for itself in 20 years. So what exactly is it? Well Common Ground is CT’s only charter high school focusing on the environment. Common Ground is also an urban demonstration farm that models practices of sustainable agriculture. Wait…there’s more! Common Ground is also an environmental education center, which offers programs for young and old (and everyone in between!) connecting everyone to the natural world. Located in New Haven, “Common Ground connects farm, forest and the city”. How cool is that!? Be sure to check out their website (www.nhep.com) for much more info.
CT NOFA has and will always be a big supporter of the work done at Common Ground. In fact, CT NOFA is currently partnering with Common Ground for a series of Gardening Workshops to help people manage their gardens through the seasons. So far, there have been workshops on “Preserving the Harvest” and “Cold Weather Crops”, both with a great turnout. Here’s the upcoming list:
Planning Your Organic Garden – 2/5/11
Starting Seedlings – 2/12/11
Soils & Compost: The Best Soil for the Garden – 4/2/11
Growing Food in Small Spaces – 4/9/11
